You’ve just invented some radically different weight loss product that allows you to lose weight while working on your website!  It's so effective that your spouse actually nags you to play on the computer.  I mean, it'll revolutionize weight loss programs, forever!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But competition for diet and weight loss products is fierce - especially during swimsuit season!  So what can you do to spread the word about your incredible new product?  In other words,&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What's the fastest, cheapest way to get prospects to your website?&lt;br /&gt;In a way that convinces them to believe what you say?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Fast isn’t a problem, but “cheap” is. Frankly, there isn’t much more you can do online than start spending mega-bucks on Google Adwords or other pay-per-click advertising. And I DO mean mega-bucks. As of this writing, the estimated average cost-per-click in Google Adwords for the keyword phrase “weight loss” is $2.17 to $2.74 – with a potential estimated cost per day of $7,760.00.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So... do you have $7,760.00 a day to spend – just on ONE keyword phrase?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I thought not.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Okay, different scenario. Say you write an e-book about what to sell on eBay. Pretty common subject. Lots of interest. And for the sake of argument, we’ll say that your book is pretty doggoned good. You don’t have a particular deadline, you just want to want to start selling some books and making some money.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The problem is that there are about 54,199,199 other sites competing for the top spot in Google for “what to sell on eBay”... and, yes, it’s also a popular keyword phrase in Adwords.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Search engines are too competitive.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You know how hard it is to get traffic to your website. The competition is fierce for any topic that’s even remotely popular. The “holy grail” of Internet Marketing – a top 10 position in a search engine like Google – is so far out of reach for most of us that it might as well be the moon. And even if you DO get there, it takes forever (well, months if not years) and you can’t bank on staying there. (I know, I’ve had that happen with one of my websites, BusinessCardDesign.com.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;PPC ads are too expensive.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So if you can’t rely on the search engines, you’ve got to find other ways to get people to your site. As I’ve mentioned, you can pay for traffic – but that can add up to quite a bit of money, and it's something you have to keep paying, month after month after month.  Besides, it’s a pain to keep track of click-through-rates and campaigns and conversion ratios and all that.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Linkbuilding is too tedious.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another effective strategy, link building, is also difficult and time-consuming to achieve. If you do it the fast way, using software or automated solutions, you run the risk of being perceived as a “link farm” and losing search engine (and yes, visitor) credibility. While links from relevant, popular websites are enormously helpful, again – they’re hard to come by and take time to develop.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So what’s an Internet Marketer to DO?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Even if you get the traffic, it doesn't mean people will buy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But the second problem most online marketers like us face is even more frustrating.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Even if you get someone to your website, how do you get them to buy your product (order your service, call your office, sign up for your mailing list, leave a comment in your forum, donate to your cause, bookmark your site), or whatever else you want them to do? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As most of us have learned (the hard way), traffic does NOT equal profit!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You need to establish some credibility with your prospect, first.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Why don't people respond to your website?  The reasons vary - could be crappy copywriting (which you can control), could be copious competition (which you cannot). But the bottom line is that it’s just plain hard to convince someone who doesn’t know you, who’s never heard of you, and who hasn’t seen your face plastered on every billboard in town to give your website more than a cursory glance. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;After all, we’re inundated with ads, we’ve learned to be suspicious of some of the nonsense and downright fraud perpetrated on the Internet, and we’re just busy. This is a wonderful way to get free promotion for your website. Any story that the media picks up will be far more valuable than a paid advertising spot. Having the media do a story about you is like a personal endorsement of your website and business.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What is the Appropriate Format for Your Press Release?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Your press release should have six basic components and they are:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. Release Instructions&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"For Immediate Release";&lt;br /&gt;"For Release Before [date]" or&lt;br /&gt;"For Release After [date]"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Use one of the latter two if your press release is of a time sensitive nature. For example, if you are holding a public speaking event, you will want to use the "For Release Before [date]" and make sure you input the final date for registrations. If you are using the "For Release Before [date]" ensure you are sensitive to media deadlines. Send your release out well in advance.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Headline&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Write an attention-grabbing headline. Make it benefits-oriented (why would it be of interest to people?) and descriptive. Avoid hype and promotional language ~ remember, this is a news story.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. Contact Information&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Include as much information as possible here. Make it easy for the media to contact you. Include your phone number, address, company name, fax number, email and URL. Include the hours you are available at the listed phone number and add an after hours phone number, if applicable.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. Summary&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Before you get into the body of the release, write a sentence or two to summarize your press release. Make it interesting, you want the recipient to keep reading. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5. Content&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is the meat of your press release. Again, write a benefits-oriented story. Think of the target audience as you are writing. Your target audience is partly the editor or reporter who will be reading the release. Ultimately, however, your target audience is that editor or reporter's readers or audience. You need to write a story that will be of interest to them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The first paragraph should answer all the important questions - Who, What, Where, When, Why &amp; How?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Add some quotations to add credibility and to break up the story. Quotations can be from you about the topic. Testimonials or commentary from your customers are very effective as well.6. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6. Signify the End of Your Release&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The end of your press release is shown by a few simple characters. Place ### at the end of your release.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Other General Formatting Tips&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-  Always remember that your press release is not an ad. It is a newsworthy story.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-  Address your release directly to the appropriate reporter or editor. The media receives many press releases each day. A release addressed to a specific person is more likely to get attention than a general submission.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-  Keep your release to about 1 page (or 2 pages maximum).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-  Number your pages 1 of 2, 2 of 2, etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-  Use active verbs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-  Do not use excessive adjectives ~ they sound like hype.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-  Tweak your release when sending to different media outlets. If you are sending to the local paper your content may be slightly different than if you are sending it to a trade magazine.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-   If you are sending your release by mail, use 8 1/2" x 11" paper.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-   If you are sending your release by email, never send an attachment. Copy and paste your release into the body of the email.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Where to Send your Press Release&lt;br /&gt;You need to build a media list and this will likely take some time. Start local and small. Local and/or small media are most likely to be interested in your story and it's the perfect way to hone your release writing skills. Besides, a lot of the larger media outlets scan the little guys to find stories to pick up.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Try newspapers, trade journals, topic specific magazines, websites, radio shows, television show ~ whomever would be interested in your topic.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Again, always remember to get specific contact information for your press release.
